I’ve been following Hugh MacLeod’s blog, gapingvoid.com, for a little over a year now and always enjoy the cartoons he draws on the back of business cards. About a week or so ago he released his first book, “Ignore Everybody and 39 Other Keys to Creativity” and I can’t speak highly enough of it. As someone who tries to be creative and is also trying to figure out what’s next in life his 40 keys really made me think in a good way. The cartoons were funny and his prose was short and easily digestible. I didn’t feel like I was being lectured to – rather being given some really good hints and points from someone who has been there. My favorite portion of the book is key number 7 that everyone is born creative, we’re all given crayons in kindergarten and then as we grow up the crayons are taken away. When we feel the need to be creative it’s just our inner kid saying, “I’d like my crayons back, please.”
