Inspiration

Ever have those days where you can’t seem to get motivated to do anything? You know you have work to do but instead you’re just counting down the hours until it’s quitting time and you can go veg on the couch all night. Today is one of those days. It’s Friday at 5pm and I’ve hit a wall … well to be honest I hit the wall awhile ago. On top of it I’ve been itching to go take some photos but nothing is inspiring me. I’ve tried a few today and they’ve turned out icky. So when going through my normal blog reading list today I got re-energized...

Trey Ratcliff Presentation at Google

I’m a huge fan of Trey Ratcliff and his site Stuck in Customs. I not only enjoy his absolutely beautiful images, but how he helps bring photographers together. Recently he gave a talk at Google’s author’s series on his new book, A World in HDR which you can watch below. I highly recommend it if you like HDR...

The Happiness Project

Since I returned from NYC in 2008 I’ve always been on the look out for things, routines, hobbies, etc to help me keep a good work/life balance. Don’t want to wake up some day and realize all I’d done was politics my whole life. So, a few weeks ago I came across a new book by Gretchen Rubin called The Happiness Project. I promptly downloaded it on my Nook (which I still need to do a review for, but short story is I love it) and I was inspired. Each month she gave herself resolutions and every day reviewed how she did on them. She also came up with some absolute rules and...

Curling update …

Sadly both the men and women US Curling teams lost yesterday in the first day of Curling at the Vancouver Olympics. Still many rounds to go yet in the round robin and I’m of course having fun watching – and explaining it to anyone who doesn’t understand it all. Also, FamousDC picked up my senior picture and wrote this little blog post about it. They’re even offering to sponsor a Curling party in DC … I may have to finally get on that.

SWEEP, SWEEP, HARD

SWEEP, SWEEP, HARD Ok that title may not make sense to most of you, but watch a little bit of curling here during the Olympics and you’ll get it. I love Curling. I played it growing up at the Green Bay Curling Club and really enjoy getting to watch it every four years during the Winter Olympics. Random known fact about me, I was part of a team that won the bronze in women’s junior curling at the Wisconsin State Games. How ’bout them apples? (yeah yeah we won because it was so cold the other team couldn’t start their cars to get to the gold medal game, but still a win is a win in my book ...

Happy President’s Day

Happy President’s Day In honor of today’s President’s day I went through the Katie archives and found a picture I took a long time ago – around age 13 – during the first of many family camping trips we used to take every summer. This is of Mount Rushmore. It’s a scan so quality isn’t the best, but I thought it’d be fun from time to time to pull a photo out of the vault. I knew I always liked photography, but I’m discovering that I started younger than I...

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

It’s that time again…

Every four years during the Winter Olympics people become obsessed with Curling again. I was a curler when I was in high school (I’ll dig up some pictures on that later) but in preparation for tonight’s opening ceremonies in Vancouver I give you Stephen Colbert as he tries curling. PS: I really want a remote control curling stone. Oh and if you want to try wii curling decasports has a great version of it. The fam and I played that tons over Christmas break. The Colbert Report Mon – Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c Skate Expectations – Curling Team Tryouts – Colbert...
