Ever have those days where you can’t seem to get motivated to do anything? You know you have work to do but instead you’re just counting down the hours until it’s quitting time and you can go veg on the couch all night. Today is one of those days. It’s Friday at 5pm and I’ve hit a wall … well to be honest I hit the wall awhile ago. On top of it I’ve been itching to go take some photos but nothing is inspiring me. I’ve tried a few today and they’ve turned out icky. So when going through my normal blog reading list today I got re-energized by a few photo web sites I recently found. Since on Twitter it’s Follow Friday I thought I’d share those sites here that are my go to’s when I need a little photo pick me up.

HDR Spotting – Site by Trey Ratcliff and company that features HDR photographers. Something you all know has become a slight obsession of mine.

Stuck In Customs – The site that started my HDR obsession. I want Trey’s job. Traveling the world taking amazing photographs.

The Still Image With Crash Taylor – Found this one via Scott Kelby’s blog. Awesome new site where pro’s feature a photo and how they did it.

Also huge fans of Joe McNally and Moose Peterson. I love how Joe writes – it’s entertaining and informative. Moose is just a phenomenal landscape/wildlife/anything outdoorsy photographer.

Sigh, is it the end of the day yet? I’m itching to go shoot something!

Since I returned from NYC in 2008 I’ve always been on the look out for things, routines, hobbies, etc to help me keep a good work/life balance. Don’t want to wake up some day and realize all I’d done was politics my whole life. So, a few weeks ago I came across a new book by Gretchen Rubin called The Happiness Project. I promptly downloaded it on my Nook (which I still need to do a review for, but short story is I love it) and I was inspired. Each month she gave herself resolutions and every day reviewed how she did on them. She also came up with some absolute rules and ongoing things she could do to keep happy. She didn’t succeed in every single one, and not all of her ideas worked for her, but some did. Some of them are just good habits to get into or things to remind yourself of when life starts to get you down.

It’s Lent, which is usually time to give up stuff, but instead I’m working on coming up with my own version of the Happiness project. I don’t think I’m going to do a year, but am taking some lessons on setting goals, having the absolute rules (ie: Be Katie) and having a few tricks ready for when I see myself slipping into sad mode that can take me out of it. For instance, two things I’ve already made are an iTunes playlist of music that makes me happy and a collection of funny YouTube videos that make me laugh.

If you haven’t checked out the book I recommend you do. Or even just check out the author’s web site: www.happiness-project.com or her Twitter account @gretchenrubin

They’re even offering to sponsor a Curling party in DC … I may have to finally get on that.

Ok that title may not make sense to most of you, but watch a little bit of curling here during the Olympics and you’ll get it. I love Curling. I played it growing up at the Green Bay Curling Club and really enjoy getting to watch it every four years during the Winter Olympics. Random known fact about me, I was part of a team that won the bronze in women’s junior curling at the Wisconsin State Games. How ’bout them apples? (yeah yeah we won because it was so cold the other team couldn’t start their cars to get to the gold medal game, but still a win is a win in my book )

Anywho if you need proof of my curlingness I went into the archives and pulled out one of my senior pictures. It’s my sports one complete with curling stone and broom.
