Sunrise at Scotts Run Nature Preserve

Sunrise at Scotts Run Nature Preserve

If you've never visited Scott's Run Nature Preserve it's right off the beltway on your way to Great Falls National Park on the Virginia side. The hike takes 10/15 mins and drops you right at a cute little waterfall and the Potomac River.
Dragonfly at the Aquatic Gardens

Dragonfly at the Aquatic Gardens

This little gal - I decided her face looked girl-like I could be totally wrong - was the perfect model and stayed on this stick until I was done.
Sunflower Fields

Sunflower Fields

Made an early morning sunrise trip to the McKee-Beshers WIldlife Management Area to finally see the huge sunflower fields. They did not disappoint.
River Abstract

River Abstract

I had the opportunity this weekend to take quite a few photos while back in Wisconsin. I'm sharing them on my flickr account, but this is one of my favorites I took of the Suamico River.
Purple Sunrise

Purple Sunrise

Going to see the cherry blossoms a lot this year. Yesterday, I did my now yearly sunrise photoshoot. The actual sunrise didn't give much but the twilight around 6:15 was this beautiful purple hue.
Super Moon

Super Moon

Last night the moon was what NASA calls a super moon because it's at it's closest point to Earth. This happens only once every 18 years. I debated about where in DC to go for this event. Ended up at the Tidal Basin to enjoy the scene before tourists descend...
More California

More California

I've put up a bunch more pictures from California on my Flickr page. Below are a few shots too that are my favorite. This sea lion came up on our beach the second night to say hi.

Happy February

Can you believe it's February already? Me either. I don't have much to share. Today's photo is of a rose spray bunch I bought at the grocery store yesterday - both to cheer myself up and to give me something to take some pictures of. It uploaded with the color looking more washed out than...

Manchester, New Hampshire

Being the political junkie I am, when I was asked to speak at a conference on using new media tools for campaigns in Manchester, New Hampshire I jumped at the chance - even if it was at the end of January. Having been to Des Moines and the state fair this past summer, a trip...

I’m on Etsy!

Inspired by a former co-worker of mine who created his own Etsy account to try and sell his photos I have decided to do the same thing. If you haven't checked out Etsy.com before go now. It is a site where anyone can create a store and you can find all sorts of handmade, unique...

Old Ebbitt Grill

One of my favorite bars in Washington is the historic Old Ebbitt Grill by the White House. It has three different bars, but the back bar is my favorite - and now they have PBR in cans! It's a little taste of home.

Union Station HDR

Last night was one of the best sunsets ever in DC and I didn't go outside to take pictures. I'm still kicking myself. I had a hunch that with the clouds, etc it might be a good one and then I saw this beautiful picture from @californiadcgirl of the Capitol she took with her iPhone....

Football deja vu

It was only two short years ago when I was sitting in a New York bar, Packers shirt on, cheesehead on my head watching the Packers take on the Giants for the NFC Championship. Favre had just had an amazing year, crushing numerous records (one of which was during a game against the Vikings) and...

An apple a day…

Not sure if it's because I love the color green or what, but I've been wanting to do a still life photo of a granny smith apple for awhile so here it is. Shot it in a homemade light box with my SB600 flash.

Stone Street – New York City

If you ever make a visit to NYC and want somewhere different to try hop in a cab or the subway and make your way down to Stone Street. It's a few blocks from the Wall Street bull between South William and Pearl streets. In the summers there are tables outside for you to drink...

Pass and Stowe

Today's daily pic comes from Union Station where for some reason I don't remember noticing this replica of the liberty bell out front until I was walking back to work yesterday after getting a snack and needed something to take a photo of. I figure better late than never. :)

Ginger get the popcorn …

Yeah yeah I love my West Wing references :) This is must see from Jon Stewart about the Democrats and last night's election. And this was actually taped before Brown actually won. Tonight's should be even better. The Daily Show With Jon StewartMon - Thurs 11p / 10c

Times Square HDR

Having gotten and read Trey Ratcliff's A World in HDR Book I was excited to try some HDR on my own. This is one of my first, I did a lot of things wrong with it (daytime, manually did the various exposures, no tripod, sky not the best) but thanks to photoshop, lightroom and topaz...

A Republican Wins in Massachusetts!

Tonight is truly historic and it's nights like this that remind me why I do this. I wish I could bottle this feeling up and open it from time to time over the next 9 months. Simply amazing. Congratulations to Scott Brown, Massachusetts' new Senator-Elect. Update: I was in Washington doing my thing at HQ...
