Favre traded to Jets

Woke up this morning in Green Bay (I'm home to see Jacob) and the front page of the newspaper is just a picture of Brett with the words Favre Traded. He's going to the NY Jets. I am and always have been on the Packers side with all of this. Both sides made mistakes during all of this, but no team can be held hostage to one player even if his name is Brett Favre. This also isn't about winning and losing to me. Yes, Brett is a better QB than Aaron. But Brett's best than most all quarterbacks. This is about Favre sticking to his decision to retire and ending this back and forth we've gone through after every season for the last 5 years. The team spent the off season re-working the offense for Rodgers. It's time for us to rebuild, think for the long term. I will always be a Favre fan and grateful for what he did for the Packers. But I'm a Packers fan before a Favre fan. I was a Packers fan before Favre and I will be after.

This Packers/Favre charade needs to stop

So Brett speaks out and what's his message? The Packers are lying, they really don't want him back. A few things here Brett:

1) Stop acting like a teenager who wants to take dad's new convertible out for a joy ride but instead is told you can just take the truck.
2) When you say the Packers don't want you back you're not just directing that at the "team" proper. You're lumping in all the fans who have stood by you for years and years. Sometimes we thought you should retire, but we welcomed you back with open arms. Last year was wonderful. Why in the world are you ruining all of that goodwill now?
3) Come back, play, help Rogers out or move on. It's that simple. Grow up. You're the only one who will lose out of this deal if you keep acting like this. It won't be the Packers.

Update: Yeah this thing is going to get me worked up all day as I keep watching Fox tease the second part of the interview tonight. So you all will just have to bear with me.

Round 2: Green Bay Packers

The thought of Brett Favre as a back up never even occurred to me so this move by the Packers came as a bit of a surprise to me, but I love it. It's the perfect response by them. Don't release Favre, but tell him his starter spot isn't guaranteed. (though come on, we all know that Favre will probably beat Rogers out during training) It also keeps him out of a Vikings or Bears jersey, which if happened would mean hell had frozen over.

This is probably the best this situation could play out. I sometimes thought the best way for Favre to go out would be to tell the team he wants to help them transition to a new phase and say he'll be playing less. If it came from Favre, the fans wouldn't be so angry. Now with Favre pulling this I'm retired, I'm not retired brouhaha, he took care of that possibility.

It's time for Favre to be done with this game. Play your cards. Talk publicly to your fans and stop letting everyone else do it. Come back, maybe start, or stay retired.

Brett, you're killing me man

Again, I love Brett Favre, but dude, stop. You're retired. Done. Yes this first training camp is the worst to not be involved in, but get a hobby, play with your kids, take your wife somewhere nice. But don't keep playing this on again off again game. It's ruining your rep.

Update: A fellow Packer fan though does make a good point that a Favre return would be worth it if he beat Dallas and it was the one loss that kept Dallas from the playoffs.

The ultimate Favre fan

I love Favre, but even I wouldn't do this.
Hat Tip: Thanks Scott!

ahhhhh I'm a bad cheesehead

I'm surprised the ghost of Lombardi didn't strike me dead last night. Brett Favre was on Letterman AND I DIDN'T KNOW! The tragedy. Hopefully, I can be forgiven. And thank God for tv on the Internets. I can still see it.

Anywho, Favre was on Letterman and started hinting that as training camp gets closer "anything could happen." Letterman couldn't get more out of Favre if that meant this whole retirement thing was a head fake or not.

I love Favre, everyone knows that, but he can't toy with my emotions like this. Either you're retired or not. Don't do this whole "oh I am, but now I'm not" game. Make a decision.

Oh and Dave, Green Bay will NEVER be shut down and we sure as hell wouldn't move to Michigan of all places if we did.

Update: Maverick alerted me a few mins ago that Favre was on ESPN and it looks like it was a preview to a Favre interview with Sportscenter that will air Sunday. FYI.
